I'm the Project Manager for a team of six representing Australia at the FullCodePress event in Sydney this May. We will be developing a website for a not-for-profit organisation in 24 hours. Read more about FullCodePress.
I'm confident that I will have a blast working with what sounds like a brilliant team of people! I applied for the Project Manager position because while I have a coding, design and usability background, one thing I have always enjoyed is organising events, people and projects, and helping very different mindsets communicate with each other. My selection was probably helped by the fact that alongside my professional experience as a web developer, I've worked as a science communicator for three years, and I've been taking on more communication facilitation roles alongside my web development roles at the not for profit organisation I work for. (Having six years of experience working for a not for profit organisation doesn't hurt, either.) I am incredibly excited and grateful that I've been given the opportunity to do something insane and awesome like this - I'll do my best! I didn't find out I was accepted until after the announcement, so my profile on the Aussie team is still blank currently. The profile I have sent in is somewhat light-hearted compared to the ones I've seen today - perhaps I should add some of my actual credentials so that none of my team members panic ;-)
Update 11th June 2009: You can read an interview with me from after the event at SitePoint. It feels like it occurred a lifetime ago, but it's only been a month. Perhaps I've been using the time machine in my sleep, again.
